Musée Marmottan, Monêt collection

“I had so much fire in me and so many plans”. Claude Monet

Visiting a museum and learning about art and master painter is always fulfilling and enriching for the soul. Art always uplift us, inspire us and send us in a new directions discovering the world and emotions of the painter in the colors and shapes of every canvas.

As said by the Master,“Painting is just another way of keeping a diary” Pablo Picasso. Each paintings tells a story that reflects the journey and state of mind of the Painter at that time. Today I am visiting le Musee Marmottan to check the available collection of Claude Monet.

Musée Marmottan Monet is located at 2, rue Louis Boilly in the 16th arrondissement of Parisand features over three hundred Impressionist and Post-Impressionist paintings by Claude Monet, including his 1872 Impression, Sunrise. It is the largest collection of his works.

Impression, Sunrise was painted in 1872, depicting a Le Havre port landscape.

Oscar-Claude Monet 14 November 1840 – 5 December 1926, was a French painter, a founder of French Impressionist painting and the most consistent and prolific practitioner of the movement’s philosophy of expressing one’s perceptions before nature, especially as applied to plein air landscape painting.

The term “Impressionism” is derived from the title of his painting Impression, sunrise, which was exhibited in 1874 in the first of the independent exhibitions mounted by Monet and his associates as an alternative to the Salon de Paris.

Monet’s ambition of documenting the French countryside led him to adopt a method of painting the same scene many times in order to capture the changing of light and the passing of the seasons. From 1883, Monet lived in Giverny, where he purchased a house and property and began a vast landscaping project which included lily ponds that would become the subjects of his best-known works.

I could stay hours staring at each painting. his emotions were present with each strike of brush and every shade of color. Monet took me into his journey with every masterpiece at Musee Marmottan.

This painting, Bras du Seine à Giverny, took my mind and soul, I could feel the wind and sunlight and the sound and colors of nature.

The museum also contains works by Berthe Morisot, Edgar Degas, Édouard Manet, Alfred Sisley, Camille Pissarro, Paul Gauguin, Paul Signac, Pierre-Auguste Renoir and others. It also houses the Wildenstein Collection of illuminated manuscripts and the Jules and Paul Marmottan collection of Napoleonic era art and furniture.
